The president said the menorah stood as one of the "powerful symbols of [the Hanukkah] spirit" in brief remarks before around 600 guests. The lamp, crafted of solid brass, was saved from the Temple Israel of Long Beach. The house of worship was badly damaged as the hurricane battered the New York coast. "I'm willing to bet it will survive another 90 years, and another 90 years after that," the president said. "Tonight it serves as another symbol of perseverance." Obama, who was joined by first lady Michelle Obama, added that on the sixth night of the Jewish holiday, "we pray its light will bring victims of Sandy and all Americans to a brighter tomorrow." The menorah was lit by Rabbi Larry Bazer, an Afghanistan war veteran. Obama noted that Bazer had been deployed in Kabul, Afghanistan, as a military chaplain over the last Hanukkah, joking he had turned down an invitation to the White House ceremony. "We don't get that very often," Obama said. "Usually when we invite people they come." He is the second of six sons born to leftist attorney Vincent Hallinan and his wife Vivian. He currently works in private practice at the Law Chambers Building at 345 Franklin Street in San Francisco, (415) 863-1430. Hallinan was educated at the London School of Economics, University of California, Berkeley, and University of California, Hastings College of the Law. He successfully contested the State Bar's negative evaluation of his character, based on his engagement in civil disobedience in opposing racist discriminatory employment practices by certain San Francisco businesses in the 1960s, before the Supreme Court of California.[1] As an attorney, he successfully argued to have the murder convictions of serial-killer Juan Corona overturned on appeal, and represented Corona in his retrial which resulted in 25 convictions for murder and a life sentence.[2] He served on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, losing his first bid for that office to Harvey Milk in 1977, and later was the district attorney of San Francisco for two terms. While serving as DA, he became a notable opponent of capital punishment. He also was a strong advocate on behalf of decriminalizing prostitution. In his tenure he supported medical marijuana and is now an advisor of NORML.[3] District Attorney of San Francisco In office 1996–2004 Preceded by Arlo Smith Succeeded by Kamala Harris Personal details Born December 4, 1936 (age 76) San Francisco, California, U.S. Political party Democratic Alma mater London School of Economics University of California, Berkeley University of California, Hastings College of the Law Profession Lawyer — with Terence Hallinan Massimo Casati Jeff Guilford Birmingham Conservatoire Moni Cremer Works at Selbständig Aj Joyce Stockton, California Peter Manso Johns Hopkins University Teruo Goto Works at Dirty old Musician. World Always On Jon's Journal December 14 2012

everyday I feel lucky because I’m ALWAYS ON! Jon Hammond Musician, television personality and radio broadcaster Jon Hammond boarded a Concorde in 1981 to travel from New York to Paris at supersonic speed, and he never slowed down. Jon travels the world, touring in Europe and Asia two or three times each year while broadcasting his “HammondCast” morning radio show seven days a week. At home in the United States, Jon splits his time between New York City and San Francisco and performs four to five concerts each month at local hospitals, nursing homes and prisons. His cable television program, “The Jon Hammond Show,” is in its 25th year and going strong. “In my business, it’s essential to be contactable 24/7. I couldn't organize as much as I do without being ALWAYS ON.” Inspired by the Beatles and fascinated by the radio (he built a crystal radio at the age of five), Jon knew he was destined to be a musician. Although that’s a departure from tradition - Jon’s father and grandfather were physicians - Jon carries on the family business in his own way by performing in some of the very hospitals where his father once practiced medicine. “I've seen people get out of their wheelchairs and dance more times than I can count, so I’m happy I can make a difference playing for those who are less fortunate than me.” Jon has not forgotten those who opened doors for him when he was first starting out in music and broadcasting, and now he uses his radio and cable television shows to do the same for deserving young talent. Like Jon, we at Alcatel-Lucent are passionate about connecting people through communications technology. In our Bell Labs locations around the world, we’re working on new and exciting innovations in next-generation broadband technology to ensure people like Jon can find even more creative ways to share music, moments and memories. http://www.HammondCast.com Anaheim California -- L to R: Jon Hammond, Joe Berger, Tony Arambarri just after Joe's NAMM Oral History recording session - Youtube http://youtu.be/uFFMVHCkZ8w Job Title: Musician, Product Endorser - short version here also http://www.namm.org/library/oral-history/joe-berger Joe Berger knows sound! James Moody - passed away just about exactly 2 years ago - Jon Hammond http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Moody_(saxophonist) James Moody (March 26, 1925 – December 9, 2010) was an American jazz saxophone and flute player. He was best known for his hit "Moody's Mood for Love," an improvisation based on "I'm in the Mood for Love"; in performance, he often sang Eddie Jefferson's vocalese lyrics for the tune, which Eddie had fit to Moody's famous solo. March 26, 1925 Savannah, Georgia, United States Died December 9, 2010 (aged 85) San Diego, California, United States Genres Jazz Hard bop Occupations Musician Instruments Alto saxophone Tenor saxophone James Moody was born in Savannah, Georgia. Growing up in New Jersey, he was attracted to the saxophone after hearing George Holmes Tate, Don Byas, and various saxophonists who played with Count Basie, and later also took up the flute. He joined the US Army Air Corps in 1943 and played in the "negro band" on the segregated base.[1] Following his discharge from the military in 1946 he played bebop with Dizzy Gillespie[2] for two years. Moody later played with Gillespie in 1964, where his colleagues in the Gillespie group, pianist Kenny Barron and guitarist Les Spann, would be musical collaborators in the coming decades. In 1948 he recorded his first session for Blue Note Records, the first in a long recording career playing both saxophone and flute. That same year he relocated to Europe, where he stayed for three years, saying he had been "scarred by racism" in the U.S.[1] His European work, including the first recording of "Moody's Mood for Love", which became a hit in 1952,[3] saw him add the alto saxophone to his repertoire and helped to establish him as recording artist in his own right, and formed part of the growth of European jazz. Then in 1952, he returned to the U.S. to a recording career with Prestige Records and others, playing flute and saxophone in bands that included musicians such as Pee Wee Moore and others. In the 1960s, he rejoined Dizzy Gillespie. He later worked also with Mike Longo.[4] In a 1998 interview with Bob Bernotas, Moody stated that he believed jazz has definite spiritual resonance. 12/12/12 This Is Your lucky day! http://laterent.blogspot.com/2012/12/pt-4-intelligent-relevant-television.html Pt 4 Intelligent Relevant Television Talk Jon's Journal 12/12/12 http://hammondcast.jimdo.com/2012/12/12/pt-4-intelligent-relevant-television-talk-jon-s-journal-december-12-2012/ Lydia's Tune, Jazzkeller, Jon Hammond, Jazz, Bossa Nova, Blues, Radio, TV, Organ, Frankfurt, Musikmesse, NAMM, Local 802, Musicians Union, Sk1, Meet the Incredible

It was a tiny test for the huge public surpri se four days later: the flipping of a switch at the Empire State Building to turn on its dancing new LED lights. They burst from the skyscraper while synchronized with R&B star Alicia Keys singing "Empire State of Mind" on nationwide radio. The LED system has "16.7 million color possibilities, in digital combinations of ripples, sparkles, sweeps and strobes," says Phil O'Donnell, of Burlington, Mass.-based Philips Color Kinetics that's responsible for the system and worked with a resident lighting designer. "It's the sum of all possibilities — a huge palette." The old lights came in only 10 colors.
