In Harlem at Showmans Lounge the legendary organ lounge on 125th St. with Cindy Blackman (drums, Wallace Roney (trumpet), Gary Bartz (sax), Charlie Epps (guitar) & Percy France announcing. The mystery continues...who is the 'child' who's not a child anymore? I checked with Lawrence Ferlinghetti and he thought it was Sylvia Beach Whitman daughter of the late great George Whitman and now manager of Shakespeare and Company shop in St. Michel Paris - but the folks at Shakespeare and Company say no that's not Sylvia - one of my best photos! Whitman was born in East Orange, New Jersey, United States, and while he was still an infant the family moved to Salem, Massachusetts.[3][4] In 2006 Whitman was awarded the "Officier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres" medal by the French government for his contribution to the arts over the previous fifty years. Born December 12, 1913 East Orange, New Jersey, United States Died December 14, 2011 (aged 98) Paris, France Occupation Proprietor Children Sylvia Beach Whitman Whitman founded his bookstore in 1951 and named it Le Mistral, then later named it after Sylvia Beach's earlier Paris bookstore "Shakespeare and Company".[6] His shop, located at 37 rue de la Bûcherie in Paris, was opened in August 1951 (two years before a sister bookshop City Lights was opened in San Francisco by Lawrence Ferlinghetti) by George Whitman with an inheritance from his aunt. He called the shop "Le Mistral" after his first French girlfriend. From the very first night he allowed travellers, young writers, poets and artists to lodge in exchange for a hand in cleaning the shop, building shelves and selling books. Sylvia Beach, whose famous shop was on 12, rue de l'Odéon, was still in Paris and came to Le Mistral to see the writers of the new generation, whom Anaïs Nin called Xerox artists,[citation needed] read aloud their new work. Whitman modeled his shop after Sylvia Beach's and, in 1958 while dining with George, she publicly announced that she was handing the name to him for his bookshop.[7] As it was the only free English-language lending library in Paris, the Beats who arrived at the Beat Hotel on rue Git-le-Coeur quickly found their way to the small bookshop and made a place for themselves there. In 1962, Sylvia Beach died, willing to Whitman a good deal of her private books and the rights to the name Shakespeare and Company. In 1964, Le Mistral was renamed Shakespeare and Company. From 1978-1981, a group of American and Canadian expatriates ran a literary journal out of the upstairs library, called Paris Voices. The editor-in-chief was Kenneth R. Timmerman and the editorial team included Canadian Antanas Sileika among others. Timmerman went on to become a novelist and political writer in the USA and Sileika went on to be a Canadian novelist. The journal hosted readings that attracted aspiring literary travelers as well as a scattering of voices from the past such as the beat poet Ted Joans and the journalist Jack Belden. Whitman named his daughter, born in 1981, after his bibliophilic predecessor; Sylvia Whitman took over the running of the shop in 2003 at age 22.[8] Whitman allowed young travellers to stay in the residential quarters of his rue de la Bûcherie premises (particularly, but not exclusively, published writers). Residents were also required to read a book a day during their stay--two days could be allowed for particularly long books--and were also required to work for two hours to contribute to the running of the shop. [9] All Whitman asked of his guests is to provide a short "biography" and photograph and work a short period in the shop. On Sunday mornings he traditionally cooked his guests a pancake breakfast, brewing up a thin ersatz "syrup" out of some burnt sugar and water. Shakespeare & Co Books, Paris, 2011. Whitman was the subject of a documentary titled Portrait of a Bookstore as an Old Man by Gonzague Pichelin and Benjamin Sutherland broadcast on The Sundance Channel in fall 2005. At the end of the film, Whitman trimmed his hair using the flame of a candle, set his hair on fire, and then doused it. On Wednesday, September 26, 2007, journalist Gerry Hadden's story on George Whitman, his daughter Sylvia Beach Whitman, and Shakespeare & Company aired on NPR's The World (a co-production of the BBC, Public Radio International (PRI), and the Boston radio station WGBH). #CNNiReport Whitman died on December 14, 2011, at age 98,[12] at home in the apartment above his bookshop, Shakespeare and Company, in Paris. He is buried in the Père Lachaise Cemetery in the east of Paris.

"The McLaren 650S is a supercar designed and manufactured by McLaren Automotive. It was announced in February 2014 as a new model, but based on the existing McLaren MP4-12C with 25% new parts,[1] and was formally unveiled at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show.[2] The 650S shares the MP4-12C's Carbon-fiber-reinforced polymer chassis, and is powered by the same McLaren M838T 3.8-litre V8, twin-turbo engine, but now developing 641 bhp (478 kW; 650 PS) and 500 lb·ft (680 N·m) of torque.[3] Power is transmitted to the wheels through a seven-speed near instantaneous shift dual-clutch gearbox.[4] The 650S has a claimed top speed of 333 km/h (207 mph), and can accelerate from 0–100 km/h (0–62 mph) in 3 seconds and from 0–200 km/h (0–124 mph) in 8.4 seconds.

First announced in March 2013, the 650S Spider is a convertible version of the 650S. It weighs 40 kilograms (88 lb) more than the coupe, but it offers nearly identical performance. It can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 3 seconds and has a top speed of 204 mph.[6] Up to 25 percent of the parts are new compared to the McLaren 12C Spider. In September 2014, McLaren launched an additional model to the range, the McLaren 625C, available in both coupe and roadster versions initially aimed at specific markets in the South Asia Pacific region.[7] Powered by the same 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine, but with a reduced power output of 616 bhp (459 kW; 625 PS). The 625C is fitted with new dampers and a revised suspension setup, including softer spring rates. Braking is by cast-iron discs instead of the carbon fibre-ceramic units fitted to the 650S. Top speed remains the same as the 650S but acceleration 0–100 km/h (0–62 mph) is slightly slower at 3.1 seconds A McLaren 650S Le Mans was revealed in early 2015 to commemorate McLaren’s inaugural win at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1995. This edition marks McLaren’s 20th anniversary since this important win - it was also their first entry ever at Le Mans where five McLaren F1 GTRs finished 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 13th. Developed by McLaren Special Operations, the McLaren 650S Le Mans is limited to 50 units all in coupe variants. It is inspired by the No.59 McLaren F1 GTR that won the 1995 Le Mans. Hence the 650S Le Mans is finished in a metallic Sarthe Grey exterior color and fitted with ‘Le Mans Edition’ lightweight wheels. Other distinct features from the entry 650S model include a functional roof-mounted engine induction ‘snorkel’ and subtle louvres on the front wings. A version of the 650S based on the Can-Am series is offered in a limited production run of 50 vehicles. The McLaren 675LT (where "LT" stands for Long Tail) is a lightweight, track-focused evolution of the McLaren 650S.[11] It was announced in February 2015 and introduced at the Geneva Motor Show 2015 . As with the 650S, the 675LT makes use of single-piece carbon fibre monocell weighing 75 kg (165 lb), and carbon fibre use in the vehicle is increased in order to further minimise weight and increase rigidity. The 675LT is supplied with new carbon ceramic brake discs to increase braking performance over the 650S. Disc sizes are 394 mm at the front and 380 mm at the rear. Six-piston calipers grip the front discs with four-piston caliper used for the rears. Braking performance is also aided by the air brake ability of the new rear wing..."
